Planote

Planote is a note-taking, planning, and studying app.

Designed for college students, Planote not only wants to help students take good notes; but also helps them review and study notes by allowing users to create reminders, generate study plans, select study tools, or brainstorm templates. As users continually engage with Planote, they start growing a tree in the application. After they reach a certain amount of points, Planote will plant a real tree on the Earth.

Planote was a group project designed during Fall 2021 for a Master’s level UX course. Our team won several categories in Indigo Design Awards 2022. You can check them out by clicking here

Brainstorming

Our team came up with a few different topics to select from in our final project. Since we were all very passionate about helping students and we were surrounded by students of all ages, we decided to design a note-taking, planning, and studying app that focused on college students’ needs.

We wanted to design a friendly interface that not only helped the student take amazing notes but also followed the student throughout their entire journey: from going to class and getting reminders to studying for an exam.

Survey

We sent out a survey to college students in the US to get a general understanding of their experiences and look for potential interviewees. We received 63 responses and that helped us define out next steps.

Then, we interviewed some students to dive deeper into their note-taking and studying experience.

Wireframes

  1. To have a consistent brand throughout the entire app, we created a design guide along with the wireframes

    1. The font chosen was Poppins - easy to read and a very popular font used in apps

Our team updated the wireframes several times. One thing that we could’ve done better was to save different versions of the updates so we could have the entire process: from very rough wireframes to the final GUI screens

    1. This was a great learning experience and we will save our progress on our next projects
